Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) has a mermaid in its garden. A shrub sculpture. Its been there for a couple of decades but following a recent complaint from the women's welfare organization in the campus, the university official ordered to alter the shape of the sculpture. Some hypocrite bitches (yes offence!!!) felt that the sculpture was a vulgar sight and chopped off her boobies :(
I can't imagine how slutty their mind would be if they see obscenity in the bosom of a real piece of art!!! And a wimp registrar who was busy looking at the bosoms of the people who approached him to complain, promptly ordered the chopping. And he didn't forget to quote the Supreme Court directive of 2002, ordering the removal of vulgar pictures and artifacts from the campuses of educational institutions. But how the hell in the world did this loser become the registrar of a university if he cannot differentiate between a piece of art and vulgarity.
The tragedy again is that the very creator/curator of the sculpture, Verghese, was ordered to destroy it. He was initially transferred to another department for not accepting to do so. I saw him crying in TV talking about his fate. I don't think that he was crying for a media gimmick because I can't imagine why he would ever do so. It's the creator who feels the pain when one of his/her creations are destroyed.
Here are some pictures of the disfigured sculpture:

Fortunately, the senate passed a resolution to restore the sculpture as soon as possible after the matter was discussed widely among sane people, art lovers, cultural leaders, artists and of-course a heated debate in the mainstream media.
But the women's welfare organization mentioned here have already made a long term plan to erase all the obscene objects from the nation as a part of "Save Indian Culture" movement and their programs in the coming weeks are given below:
- Initiation of fund collection to buy sarees to cover sculptures in Bhuvaneshwar temples
- Legal action against the dancing women at the Parasurameswar temple, Orissa
- Demolition of Ellora caves to protect the modesty of women in Maharashtra
- Sathyagraha in Khajuraho, MP, against the erotic sculptures there
- Painting sarees on the nude paintings by Raja Ravi Verma
- An assassination plan for M F Hussain
- Erasing all traces of Kamasutra from the Indian culture
