The gender equality story

First and foremost, I am a person who fully support gender equality and have faced lot of anger for the same reason from both the genders.

We have reservation for women in the elections and the panchayath elections have already been taken place with all these in effect. The problem arose in Palakkadu municipality in Kerala when women councillors demanded for a separate/exclusive room for them in the municipal office here. Most of the Internet news portals reported that the demand was for a separate rest room which according to the main stream media is not true. The demand was that the women councillors need a an exclusive room for them as they are 28 in number an have to come to municipal office every day to carry out their duty. In my opinion, the demand was ridiculous as long as the municipal office comply with the norms for rest rooms for women workers as per the mercantile law of India (well, I think so but not sure if its being followed by the office in context!!!).

I believe that the female readers of this post, if at all anyone reads, are most probably employed in professional organizations where all of us carry out our duties far more effectively than any of the government bodies, without having separate rooms for men and women. So we will take this matter in a humorous way :P

Let's see why there should not be a separate room for women councillors ;)

  1. Reduction in wastage of time by gossiping: Well, let me be very clear that I am of no opinion that women are the only ones who gossip but men too are very good at it. Here the wastage of time can be avoided by making men and women sit together by another factor, the difference of interest in topics... Women will gossip abt men, clothes, TV serials etc. and men gossip about football, automobiles, movies and of course women!!! But by making them sit together, there will be uneasiness to gossip due to contradicting interests and embarrassments. (I hope this isn't gonna end up like what happened in my 8th std. My class teacher tried an innovative idea to shuffle gals and guys to sit together to reduce talking in class. The rest is history :P)
  2. No gang rapes: Well, there was a harsh slap on the face of all the decent men in the country (or rather world) that if men sit with these damsels, they will drag these ladies to rest rooms and gang rape them (I know all of these men who work with women are rapists. Ma behen nahin hai kya?? :P). If we allow these demon rapers to sit separately, they can easily plan for many more rapes and execute them. We can avoid that by makin them all sit together.. :D (btw dear men, I think we too need to grow up a li'l bit :P)
  3. Improved communication and productivity: Jokes apart, all of the councillors sitting together will improve productivity and result in better communication. This will drastically reduce the greatest problem in these offices, Bureaucracy!!! After all the job should be done by the eod and country as a whole should develop as a result of that.
If we look at the modern design of work places which look at the productivity, they all point towards a open work place not separated by any barriers; physical or emotional. After all the core reason for all these reservations and all are to provide women empowerment and equality. But it'll be difficult if women still want to close themselves within their own world.
